Staying in the centre of your lane while in a line of stopped or moving traffic provides the best visibility and stability for the rider. This position allows you to make better observations of your surroundings, including the vehicles ahead, as well as any potential hazards that could arise both in front of and behind you. By maintaining a central lane position, you are also less likely to be affected by situations such as sudden movements from surrounding vehicles or debris on the sides of the road.

This position enhances your ability to respond quickly if necessary, and it allows other drivers to see you more clearly, reducing the risk of accidents. When you are directly in the middle of your lane, you also provide a buffer on both sides from unexpected encounters with other vehicles.

On the other hand, staying on the side of the road can limit your options for maneuvering and make you more vulnerable to being overlooked by other drivers, while weaving in and out of traffic increases your risk of collision and creates unpredictability in your movements. Positioning yourself behind the last vehicle, although potentially safe, may not provide the optimum visibility and reaction time should any emergencies arise.
